Silk dyeing with several classes of reactive dyes was studied.A class of reactive dyes con-taining(N-methyl-β-sulfoethylamino)ethylsulfonyl groups for silk is presented.A new method forintroducing such a reactive group and a kinetic studies on the reaction mechanism involved are pro-posed.A kinetic isotopic effect on dyeing mechanism with silk is discussed and the optimum dyeingtechniques recommended.Dyeing or printing was carried out in neutral media;brilliant shades, goodfastness, high fixation and excellent storage stability are given.

A counteracting chromatographic electrophoresis(CACE)separation device has been success-fully built and tested.Experiments are performed with protein mixtures of BSA,Hg,Mg and Cyto-cto study the separation performances, concentration profiles,start-up methodology as well as influ-ences of pH and ionic strength on the separation process.Mathematical models based on the fluiddynamics of the porous medium are proposed.Experiments indicate that the CACE process has agood commercial potential in protein engineering and fine chemicals purification.

Partition coefficients of Urokinase(UK)were measured in aqueous two-phase systems con-taining polyethylene glycol and potassium phosphate at 273.2K.Based on the Diamond-Hsu model,a modified expression was obtained for the correlation of enzyme partitioning in theabove-mentioned systems.Utilizing a modified form, the partitioning data of UK and heteroproteinwere correlated. The results show that the modified model is simple gives good precision.and will fa-cilitate engineering scale-up of aqueous two-phase systems for certain proteins purification.

A novel capillary array model is proposed to shed light on the development of themaldistribution of cocurrent downward gas-liquid flow and the hysteretic performance behavior in apacked column. The model is based on the principle of nonequilibrium thermodynamics and incombination with lateral random walk of elemental liquid rivulets. The liquid distribution over aone-dimensional array of capillaries is simulated and the basic features of gas-liquid flow in packedbeds are demonstrated. With proper correspondence of hysteresis branches with nonuniformity of flowdistribution assumed, the experimentally observed hysteresis in pressure drop, liquid holdup and masstransfer rate can be qualitatively simulated.Strenuous efforts are still required for further developingthis model into a predictive tool for the evaluation of performance of packed-bed type devices.

In this paper the MINLP method proposed in Part(Ⅰ)is illustrated by applying it tothe synthesis problem of non-sharp distillation sequences.A MINLP formulation for the synthesis ofdistillation sequences with non-sharp separation is proposed. In this formulation the recoveries of thekey components are introduced as optimization variables and this makes it possible to synthesize adistillation sequence with specified component recoveries, and at the same time, renders the MINLPproblem nonconvex. The solution procedure is illustrated with three example problems.

An approach with statistical mechanics and a unified molecular theory of non-linearviscoelasticity with constraints of Gaussian chain entanglement for polymer melts were proposed.Amultimode model structure for a single polymer chain with tail segments and N reversibleentanglement sites on the test polymer chain was developed. The probability distribution function ofthe end-to-end vector for a single polymer chain at entangled state and the viscoelastic free energyof deformation for polymer melts were calculated.Four types of stress-strain relationship and mem-ory function were derived from this theory. The above theoretical relationships were verified by experi-mental data of PS(polystyrene)and LDPE(low density polyethylene)melts.

A numerical method capable is developed for handling steady laminar flow and heat trans-fer of a highly viscous power-law fluid whose density, viscosity, specific heat and thermalconductivity, vary with temperature. The governing equations are found to be continuity, monmentumand energy expressions.Important effects such as varying viscosity, natural convection and viscousdissipation are incorporated in the theoretical model. These equations are being attracted by employing a decoupled finite element method.Galerkin’sprinciple is used to handle the momentum and continuity equations.Consistent(SU/PG)andnon-consistent(SU)streamline upwind methods are employed for the energy equation.Comparisonof calculated results and experimental data shows good agreement.Similar results are obtained withSU and SU/PG methods.Velocity and temperature profiles which provide insights into the processare also given.
