Based on a modified van der Waals model, in which the excluded volume is expressed as a linear function of density, the internal pressure and the physical contribution of two - dimensional solubility parameter suggested by Bagley et al. can be expressed as functions of density and a size dependent parameter A. A group contribution method for estimating parameter A and then the solubility parameter has been developed. Average relative deviation of the predicted solubility parameters in comparison will the experimental values for more than sixty liquids including non- polar and polar species as well as those with strong hydrogen bonding is 0.8%. Further correlation with topological indices of molecules makes this method applicable to various isomers of saturated alkanes. Average relative deviation of prediction for 34 saturated alkanes is only 0.6%.

A new mechanism of electric demulsification was proposed and the coalescence behavior of fine waterdrops in oil under electric field was discussed in detail On this basis,a mathematical description for phaseseparation of emulsion in electric field has been derived and proved to be in good agreement with experimentaldata.Conditions influenced the electric coalescence was examined in a batch pulsed A.C.electric demulsifier.

The macro-kinetics of benzene hydrogenation over porous Ni/γ-Al_2O_3 catalyst was measured with asingle-pellet diffusion reactor.Based on the dusty-gas model, the differential equations by taking into account ofthe variation of effective diffusivities with the composition were derived to describe the diffusion and reactionprocesses of reacting species over porous catalyst.Using the tortuosity factors determined under the condition ofsteady physical diffusion, the global reaction rates were calculated by solving the equations, and the results are ingood agreement with the experimental data obtained.

The density and interfacial tension of nitrogen-hydrocarbon binary systems were measured at the temperature of40℃over a wide range of pressures from 0.101 to 40 MPa.Measurements were made on the followinghydrocarbons with nitrogen:n-pentane.n-hexane.n-heptane,n-octane,n-decane and toluene.Comparisons madebetween data obtained from these systems and those from the literature at 0.101 MPa and 40℃show goodagreement and consistency.

A self-made bioreactor with a nylon cloth cassette immobilized C.roseus plant cells was used tostudy the indole alkaloid production in the“production phase”.The results show this bioreactor provided agood microenvironment for plant cells and was suitable for the culture of C.roseus cells to synthesize the indolealkaloids.A fuzzy multicritical optimal method was used to optimize the constructional and operating parametersof the immobilized plant cell reactor. The fuzzy optimization provide useful information for exploiting thelarge scale alkaloid production process.

A flow apparatus was set up for measuring the solubility of a solid solute in a supercritical fluid withthe presence of a small amount of entrainer. The solubilities of biphenyl, diphenylamine and benzoic acid insupercritical carbon dioxide with one of the selected entrainers which were ethanol, acetone and n-hexanerespectively,were obtained in the pressure range of 10—32 MPa and the temperature range of 308—318K.Asolvolytic association theory has been proposed to explain the mechanism of entrainer effect, and theexperimental results were reasonably analysed.According to the solvolytic association theory, the association equa-tion of state was adopted to correlate the experimental data with good accuracy.
