An algorithm for global optimization of a class of nonconvex MINLP problems is devel-oped and presented in this paper.By partitioning the variables, dual representation of the primal ofsubproblems and outer-approximation strategy are used to develop a representative relaxed iterativeproblem. Then the original MINLP problem is replaced by a series of subproblems and relaxediterative problems.By exploiting the particular form of the nonconvex MINLP problem, the feasibleregion of this problem is explicitly included in the representative problem, thus the inconvenienceencountered with the GBD method can be avoided. The proposed method is illustrated andinterpreted geometrically with an example problem.

In the present paper a model equation for calculating the radical desorption rate constant,k_0,in the emulsion polymerization of vinyl acetate was suggested and the various parameters forevaluating k_0 were determined.Effects of reaction temperature, emulsifier concentration, initiator con-centration,monomer conversion and phase ratio on k_0 were studied. It indicates that the desorptionof radicals from latex particles to aqueous phase must be taken into account in the modelling ofemulsion polymerization for the monomers with higher hydrophilicity such as vinyl acetate.

A new CVD method without vacuum condition(CVDWV)was designed in this study, ithad been found that by modifying the flow rate of the carrier gas(N_2)and the temperature of sur-face reaction, silicon saturator and sample tube, the amount of silica deposited on the external sur-face of the zeolite could be precisely controlled,The changes in the physicochemical properties ofzeolite, such as pore-opening size, acidity and reaction property were investigated. The results ob-tained showed that:modification of the improved CVD method did not change the internal structureand acidity of the zeolite, but could bring about significant change of pore-opening size and reactionproperty as desired.

Techniques are developed for studying the mechanism of localized corrosion and protectivemeasures against such corrosion are suggested. The pH values and composition of the occluded sol-ution at different propagation stages are determined.Measurements of the critical pH value and cor-rosion rate inside the occluded cells are conducted.Potential-pH diagrams depicting kinetic andthermodynamic behaviors of occluded cell corrosion are being established. The mechanism of inhibi-tion of pitting and stress corrosion cracking have also been investigated.

The present paper shows how the Schuster Schwarzschild method developed originally inastrophysics can be adopted to simulate the performance of the primary reforming furnace in an am-monia plant. This method facilitates the simulation of heat transfer and reaction in the furnace andimproves the computational efficiency.Simulation analysis is carried out to find ways of saving ener-gy.Appropriate reduction in fuel gas loading and partially shifting of the reforming load from theprimary to the secondary reformer by regulating the operating conditions can result in substantial en-ergy saving.Optimization calculations with various objective functions and constraints required areperformed. The optimization results may serve as guideline for plant operation and control.

pVT data for R22 and propylene around critical region were obtained through a AntonPaar DMT-512 oscillator densimeter.Vapor pressures in the corresponding region as well as criticalpressures and densities were also determined based on the pVT data measured.
